Monali Thakur is an actress and one of the leading playback singers of India. She got trained in Hindustani classical music from Pandit Jagdish Prasad and Pandit  Ajoy Chakraborty. Her debut songs in Bollywood are 'Khwab Dekhe (Sexy Lady) ' and 'Zara Zara Touch Me' that she had sung for the movie 'Race' (2008). She got recognition from 'Zara Zara Touch Me' which gained immense popularity in 2008. Monali is the singer of the song 'Moh Moh Ke Dhaage' for the film 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' (2015), for which she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She is the singer of the song 'Sawaar Loon' for the movie 'Lootera' (2013), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Monali's sister Mehuli Thakur is also a playback singer, and her father Shakti Thakur is a Bengali singer.

As a child actress, she had played a leading role of character Indubala in a Bengali television show 'Aalokito ek Indu.' Thakur made her acting debut by playing the role of Bhromor in the Bengali film 'Krishnakanter Will' (2007). Monali made her Bollywood debut in 2014 with Nagesh Kukunoor's directed film 'Lakshmi' in which she played the role of a 15-year-old girl who gets trapped in child prostitution. She has also appeared in a short film 'Jangle Bells'  (2015). Currently, Monali is one of the Judges of the singing show 'Rising Star' that is aired on  Colors TV.

Rising Star is a Singing reality show that is going to be aired on Colors TV channel from 4 February  2017.  'Rising Star' show has already been organized in many countries such as USA, Russia,  Argentina,  Indonesia,  Israel, etc. and it is now finally conducted in India.  For Online Registration, we have to log on to the Official colors Rising Star website www.colorstv.com/risingstar.  So by registering for the Auditions, we can be a part of it on the specific date and time mentioned at the nearest location. We can also register via SMS RisingStar to 56882, and be a part of the Auditions.

Rising Star Auditions are done in several cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ranchi, Bangalore,  Jammu,  Amritsar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Chandigarh, Guwahati, etc. The latest venue along with date and time can be seen in the Official colors Rising Star website.

Auditions Norms:

1. The age of participant should be six years or more. For age proof, any one document- Driving Licence/Birth Certificate/Passport/Pan Card/ School Leaving Certificate is required.

2. Participants have to make their own travel and lodging arrangements. If the Participant is a minor, then he or she should be accompanied by parent/guardian.

Requirements of Audition Video:

1. The participant should have an Audition Video containing a song as sung and recorded by the Participant in his or her voice. It is up to the wish of the member whether to use or not use any musical instrument while recording the Audition Video. The maximum duration of the Audition Video can be three minutes. Audition Video exceeding 3 minutes duration shall be rejected.

2. The Audition Video file can also be uploaded by the Participant in Avi, Mpeg, or  Mp4 formats whose maximum permitted size is 10 MB.

Rising Star:

'Rising Star'  is a singing reality show that will begin from  4 February 2017  and can be watched every Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 PM on Colors TV.  The Judges of this singing show are Shankar Mahadevan, Monali Thakur, and Diljit Dosanjh. However,  the viewers watching this show are also the Judges from their home whose voting is crucial to determine the ranking of contestants.

How to vote for performers on Rising Star:

During each performance stage of the show, the viewers at home can decide whether or not a contestant goes to the next round by using a mobile voting app.Talking about auditions of the show, the acts are not pre-announced, but the names of candidates are called randomly. So only a limited number of the contestants who are waiting get the chance to perform on the show on that particular day. When a participant shows his or her performance by singing a  song, viewers are invited to vote for that particular act. Initially, the contestant has to perform behind the screen called 'The Wall.' Registered voters have the choice to vote yes or no. If yes vote is cast by a voter other than the host, another 70% is added to the total of the contestant. The contestants are able to see the random photos of voters in their favor and if the participant score reaches 70% of 'Yes' votes, the wall is raised, and he or she qualifies for the next round of singing competition.

Those contestants who are able to make through the auditions are paired by judges to compete with each other. The contestant who has to sing first is chosen by a  toss. He or she sings on screen and sets the target for the second contestant. The second contestant has to sing behind the wall, and if he or she gets more votes than the total of first opponent's votes, the wall rises and the second candidate qualifies to the next round while the while the first contestant is eliminated. If the second participant gets lesser votes than the first contestant, then the second contestant is eliminated, and the first contestant makes to the next round.
